Kadaster can be characterised as an information organisation a lot of datasets and information are available at platforms and are connectable

Frank Tierolff is board member of SEMANTICS 2017 Premium Sponsor Kadaster. He characterises Kadaster as an information organisation a lot of datasets and information are available at platforms and are connectable. That is a challenge as well: datasets that are combined provide added value but require careful consideration when privacy is nowadays of relevant interest; that requires sensitivity and transparency.

Can you tell something about your work/research focus?

I am not a researcher or scientist. However, I experience the relevance and impact of technology every day. Technology is an important enabler supporting solutions for complex challenges in society. In my work it is about positioning and translation; how does technology add value to the data and knowledge that Kadaster can provide in order to support society.

Which trends and challenges you see for linked data/semantic web and why are they important for Kadaster?

The technology behind linked data develops itself rapidly. Just like other technologies; think about 3 and 4D, deep learning and the blockchain. We are involved in these technologies because we notify their potential. As Kadaster can be characterised as an information organisation a lot of datasets and information are available at platforms and are connectable. That is a challenge as well: datasets that are combined provide added value but require careful consideration when privacy is nowadays of relevant interest; that requires sensitivity and transparency.

Kadaster advocates the principle data at the source. You want certainty about the data that you use, you want to rely on it. Because you want to make sound decisions. Data that is not registered at the source, lacks this certainty. You don’t know if duplicated data provides the right information. In order to exclude this, data at the source will stay relevant.

What are your expectations about Semantics 2017 in Amsterdam, what makes it special for Kadaster?

As linked data and related technologies are moving forward at incredible speed, Semantics 2017 provides an excellent platform for existing and new communities to meet, share and discuss developments. I am sure that a lot of energy and enthusiasm will be generated; inspiring for all. And the city itself is a hub for innovation; there is no better place than Amsterdam to host such an event.

I am looking forward to it!
