Today the world is being changed and revolutionized very fast by the integration of new technologies. Mainly digitalization and in particular, Big data and the next generation Artificial Intelligence (AI), are impacting our lives as well as business processes. The operational environment and all the digital services should actionably respond to these changes and result in actionable insights for the support of decision making actions in various domains. Industrial integration of technologies that cause such actionable changes include knowledge graphs, explainable and conversational AI, human centered AI, as well as deep learning, adversarial networks, and reinforcement learning. The BiDAW workshop aims at bringing together practitioners and researchers from the areas of semantic web, artificial intelligence, and databases, to discuss research issues and experiences in developing and deploying concepts, techniques, and applications that address various issues related to big data and actionable knowledge. In this regard, we believe that the BiDAW workshop will provide a productive andBiDAW will be run as an interactive workshop, where key panelists and attendees will discuss research and business roadmaps in the fields of interest. The BiDAW workshop is being supported and sponsored by the RIDGE-US project (Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Made in Germany inspiring the US) as a part of German Research marketing campaign through the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
Following the standards of the SEMANTiCS conference in terms of industrial perspectives, we aim at building up a bridge between Europe and the US in research and industrial applications. Invited experts from Germany will present their research and business achievements on new technologies in the field of actionable knowledge; they will also show which expertise and knowledge is required from university graduates and how industries can collaborate between Europe and the US. Additionally, experts from the actionable knowledge networks in the US will be also invited; invitees will be associated with universities, research centers, professional
associations, funding organizations, and companies.
Talks and discussions will be guided to demonstrate and brainstorm scientific and industrial contributions from German scientists and companies in the use of semantic web technologies, big data, AI, and actionable knowledge.
