While computers and networks have dramatically changed many areas of society, knowledge exchange in research still follows traditional paradigms - the discussion in this topic is devoted on how we can facilitate the paradigm shift from document-based to knowledge graph based information exchange in science and technology. How can we represent scientific information in a structured, machine-readable way as well as interlink and integrate research data, metadata to ultimately build a large research knowledge graph capturing the current scientific discourse.

Following stations at the universities of Dresden, Ekaterinburg, Leipzig, Pennsylvania, Bonn and the Fraunhofer Society, Prof. Auer was appointed Professor of Data Science and Digital Libraries at Leibniz Universität Hannover and Director of the TIB in 2017. Prof. Auer has made important contributions to semantic technologies, knowledge engineering and information systems.
